Nine held for `kidnapping', demanding ransom

VADODARA, Oct 17: As many as nine people were arrested last night on charges of kidnapping two persons from Vadodara and demanding ransom from them. According to Police Inspector K B Jadeja, the accused were led by one Vijay Chauhan, a resident of Ahmedabad. Chauhan abducted Dinesh Rajput and Sultan Yadav from their residences in Subhanpura on Saturday. According to Rajput's complaint, a catering contractor in Vadodara, Chauhan came to him and demanded Rs 50,000. When he refused, Chauhan asked Rajput to sit in his Tata Sumo for a ride to the nearest pan shop. Sultan Yadav was also abducted in the same manner.The kidnappers took them to Vasad and asked them to arrange for Rs 50,000. Rajput arranged to get Rs 2,700 from an acquaintance, Dabobhai in Vasad. Later he dropped the two on the outskirts of Vadodara. Rajput contacted Dabobhai, who immediately called the Vasad police. The police caught the accused persons at Vasad bridge when they were returning. Police retrieved the cash, the mobile, the wrist watch and the ring from the abductors.
