Vajpayee's reforms wheel gets rolling
The new government of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee got down to the business of speeding up the economic reforms at the very first meeting of the Union Cabinet by first not giving in to the truckers demand of rolling back diesel rates and then clearing the IRA Bill for its tabling in the Parliament.

Reliance net profit rises by 22 pc in first half
Textile and petrochemical giant Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has achieved a 22 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 1,122 crore in the first six months (H1) ended September 1999 against Rs 921 crore in the same period of last year.

`Other income' drives up Bajaj Auto net profit
Two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto has reported a marginal rise in net profit in the first six months of the current year, thanks to the contribution of `other income' to the profit level.
