Land allotted for scheme
Gandhinagar: In its resolve to implement speedily the ambitious housing scheme for the urban poor in the State, the government has released over 1.53 lakh sq m of land for construction of 50,000 houses in the six major cities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar. Earlier, the government had allotted over 1.64 lakh sq m of land to help the six civic bodies and urban development authorities to construct the hosues for the urban poor. Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel has directed the State Revenue Department to ensure smooth process of clearing the land allotment for the purpose.JJC garba
Jamnagar: The Jamnagar Junior Chamber (JJC) organised a Navratri garba here on Monday for wives and children of soldiers deployed on the Kutch and Rajasthan borders. ``We are thrilled and delighted to have witnessed the culture of Gujarat today,'' said Shashi Vijayan, AWWA president and wife of Brigadier Laxman Vijayan who was chief guest at the function. About 1,000 families, including children of soldiers and officers stationed at Jamnagar Cantt, attended the festival funtion. Shashi Vijayan lauded the endeavour of the JJC saying that it had emotionally touched soldiers' families.
Committee visit
Rajkot: The Estimates Committee of Gujarat Assembly will visit Rajkot, Porbandar, Amreli and Bhavnagar districts in Saurashtra. The Committee will be in the city on October 25. On October 26, they will visit Jamnagar and Porbandar, followed by Amreli and Junagadh on October 27 and Bhavnagar on October 28, a Government Press release said.
New pipeline
Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel will inaugurate the Rs 1,796-lakh water project established by the Water Supply Board in Surendranagar on October 21. About two lakh people in Surendranagar and Wadhwan towns will benefit from the scheme. State Water Supply Minister Narottam Pate and Prohibition Minister Fakirbhai Vaghela will be present.
