Miles to go before this Mayor rests

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Oct 18: Things seem to be happening at the V S Hospital ever since the new chairman of its board of management Malini Atit has started visiting the hospital. Or, at least that was the impression the Mayor conveyed to journalists on Wednesday though she did add that a lot remained to be done and nothing of any consequence whatsoever had been achieved in the past two and half years.

When it was pointed out that it was the same BJP that had been in power, she quickly retreated saying she did not negate the good things done in the past.

``I am not suggesting that the previous chairmen had no vision or had no ideas...all what I now say is that let us forget the past and make a fresh beginning in improving the facilities and functioning at the hospital'', she said. Was the visit a surprise check like standing committee chairman Dharmendra Shah was fond of conducting or it was a scheduled visit? To this, she said she did not believe in raiding places. ``Instead, I think I can do a better job by taking all and sundry into confidence'', she said.

The mayor suggested doing away which formalities like prior approval for getting emergency medicines from the stores to reduce delay.

Atit said she was also convinced of the need to renovate the darkroom of the radiology department. She also said that she would keep track of her suggestion and seek a follow-up report at the end of a month from the date when the suggestion made.

She was candid enough to admit that the corporation had to accommodate ruling party workers while awarding certain contracts. ``But I insist that the person performs,'' she added, while justifying the awarding of contract for a cycle stand at the hospital to a party worker.
