AHMEDABAD, Oct 20: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is starting its six-phase pulse polio immunisation drive from October 24 and it is going to spend Rs 60 lakh on the massive exercise as this is the last chance of eradicating polio from the city.According to a press release issued by the mayor's office, the AMC is determined to achieve a 100 per cent result this time and all necessary preparations have been completed on a war footing. All children below five years of age will be administered polio vaccine at 961 booths set up at various points in the city.
The release said that to differentiate between children covered under the drive and those left out, the AMC would marks the fingers of kids with ink. Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs and around 45 non-governmental organisations will be providing their services to the AMC.
All municipal councillors have been urged to make rounds of their wards and induce people to take their children to polio vaccination centres on the appointed day. Special vans will be sent in labour and slum areas where people cannot go out for vaccination, it is stated.
The polio immunisation drive will be conducted on six occasions: October 24, November 21, December 19, January 23, February 27 and March 26.
