Eye check-up camp at Nehru Park on Sunday

SAS NAGAR, Oct 20: A day-long free eye check-up and operative camp would be held at Nehru Park in Sector 22, Chandigarh on Sunday.

It will be organised by the Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Eye Hospital Charitable Trust.

Trust chairman Bhai Jasbir Singh Khannewale said at a press conference that in the last four years the trust has organised more than 100 such camps and last such camp was organised at Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh in which 4000 patients were examined and 266 persons were operated for cataract. The conference was also attended by trust secretary Sawaranjeet Singh and medical superintendent of SGHSEH, Sohana, Gurmeet Singh. The trust has an mobile OPD. and it is expecting around 2,000 patients at the camp on Sunday and expect to operate 200-300 patients.

Nine OPDs including dental, ayurvedic and homoeopathic have been set up and the trust estimates the cost to go up to Rs 6 lakh.

The camp is being sponsored by the Indian Oil.

The operations would be done by Ephaco Emulsification technique with which the cataract can be removed from the eye by making a small opening (3mm), Gurmeet Singh said.

Seminar on eye care on Oct 23
A seminar on eye care and eye donation will be held at Rock Garden on Saturday to promote awareness on issues concerning prevention of diseases, ignorance and encourage eye donation.

Winners of "Eye Donation Awareness Quiz" will be given prizes on the occasion.

A cycle rally to popularise the theme of eye donation will also be organised.
