India's maritime heritage displayed at INMEX '99

PUNE, Oct 20: The Indian Maritime Foundation here displayed India's maritime heritage, misuse of her coastal ecosystem and conservation measures at a recently concluded India's first international exhibition INMEX '99 in Panaji (Goa).

Visitors showed special interest in the life-saving training developed by the Foundation as well as an action plan to clean-up India's polluted beaches, Foundation council member Qaneez Sukhrani said in a press release today. Foundation president Capt Rajan Veer IN (retd.) and council member Cdr. Kishore Patankar IN (retd.) represented the Foundation at the exhibition.

A two-day conference on Maritime 2000 was a vital aspect of the exhibition. It dealt with trade, shipping and ocean resources, ports, harbours and transportation and shipbuilding and maritime industry and was inaugurated by Governor of Goa Lt Gen P R Jacob (retd). In his address the Governor stated that the changes which he said, were in offing in the maritime industry, would undoubtedly have a significant impact on India's maritime and economic growth, the release added.
