Prakash, Suman do the trick for Chandigarh

NEW DELHI, October 20: One-sided matches were once again the order of the day in the quarterfinals of the sixth Nehru girls hockey tournament at the National Stadium here today when the four winning teams accounted for as many as 33 goals without conceding a single goal.

Prakash and Suman recorded a hat-trick each in Inshwar Singh Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School's (Chandigarh) runaway 11-0 win over Bishnupur Higher Secondary School, Manipur. In a lacklustre tie, Chandigarh girls led 7-0 at half time. Other scorers for the winners were Prem Lata and Sunila Sharma (one each). Joining the Chandigarh school in the last four berth was Birsamunda Vidyapitha, Rourkela (Orissa) who thrashed Rani Parvati Devi School, Maharashtra, 10-0. The winners took a formidable 7-0 lead in the first half itself.

Ejren Dadel, Bahamani Tirkey (three each) Anjana Dhrua, Sunita Ekka, Pravasaini Bage and Sukanti (one each) scored for Birsamunada. Completing the semifinal line up were Govt. Girls High School, Ranchi, and Govt Adarsh School, Durg (MP).

Ranchi school humbled G.V.Raja Sports School, Kerala 9-0. They took a 6-0 lead in the first session. Amrita Minz (three), Anita (two), Prem Shaila, Guddi Kumari, Bimla Soreng and Asunta Lakra (one each) were the goal getters. Govt. Adarsh School, Durg, overpowered Govt School, Patna, 3-0 after leading 1-0 at half-time. Nanita Navghare, Rana Amrean and Saba Anjum (one each) scored for Durg school. In the semifinals tomorrow, Ishwar Singh Dev Samaj School will face Govt Adarash School, Durg, and Govt. High school, Ranchi takes on Birsamunda Vidyapitha, Rourkela (Orissa).
