Twenty teams for Jr Nehru Hockey

NEW DELHI, Oct 20: About 20 school teams, including holders St. Ignatius School from Gumla (Bihar) and runners-up Union Academy (Delhi) will vie for top honours in the Rs 2.31 lakh 28th Junior Nehru Hockey (u-17) tournament to be played at the National Stadium here from October 22 to November 2. Four teams of the Army Boys Sports companies have also qualified for the tourney.

Nehru Hockey Society secretary Shiv Kumar Verma said the winners will get Rs one lakh, runners-up Rs 60,000 and the third placers Rs 40,000. The coaches of the first three teams and four best players of the tournament will also be given cash prizes. A cash award of Rs 10,000 sponsored by Pepsi will be awarded to the team/individual scoring highest number of penalty corner goals.

Other teams taking part include: Birsamunda Vidyapitha, Rourkela (Orissa), Lyallpur Khalsa School (Jalandhar), C.R.Z. School (Sonepat), Children's Academy School (Bhopal), Zila Parishad School (Amravati), Govt. Secondary School (Singhu), Raj Kumar College (Rajkot), St.Joseph's School (Bardez), Mary Matha School (Panthalampadam), Paradise Academy (Imphal), Zotlang High School (Aizwal), Khalsa High School (Calcutta), Shah Satnamji School (Sirsa), School team from Rajasthan and Boys Sports Companies teams from B.R.C.Danapur, A.S.C. Bangalore, S.R.C.Ramgarh Cantt, M.L.I.Belgaum.
