C-DAC launches new version of Indian language interface software

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, OCT 22: The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) on Thursday announced the release of a new version of its Indian language interface software ISM (ISFOC Script Manager) Version 3.0.

``This improved version offers ISM Soft, ISM Publisher, and ISM Office for different users, and with its 32 bit character code, opens up avenues for content developers on the web and application software developers,'' said R K Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC, adding that C-DAC had targeted Rs 15 crore in the Indian language segment for the current year. It will be marketed in India and abroad, and would perhaps be appearing sooner in the Middle East, said Arora.

Designed to cater to the publishing, home, corporate and Government segments, the ISM Indian language interface allows users to work on any Indian language with applications like MS Office, Page-maker, CorelDraw, Photoshop, Quark Express, and Adobe Illustrator.

The new version 3.0, targeted at not only users, but also the developers market, toencourage local language contents on the Web, makes it possible to browse, sort and create reports using Indian language databases, translate proper nouns in test files and databases into Indian languages, provides ALP, an Indian language word processor on DOS, that allows quicker entry of text in Indian languages, provides spellchecker, dictionary, filters or converters, and font previewers.

ISM Office, for Rs 8,000, comes with the provision to use all languages simultaneously, and is also available for multiple user systems such as Windows NT and Novell NetWare.

ISM Soft is priced at Rs 4,000, with Application Program Interfaces, and ISM Publisher at Rs 4,000 for one language and Rs 6,000 for all languages and fonts.

The market for Indian language software, at a maximum of Rs 25 crore, had grown remarkably only in the last three years, said Arora, adding that C-DAC was in touch with all State Governments in this regard.
