SAS NAGAR, Oct 22: A cycle rally was organised in the township by Rotary Club, in association with Inner Wheel Club, SAS Nagar, to create awareness regarding the Pulse Polio programme, here today.Some 800 school children participated from six different schools of the township: Shivalik Public school, Gain Joyti, Gem Public school, Pargon Public School, Sawami Ram Tirath School and Shastri Model School.
The rally was flagged off by Chief Medical Officer Roopnagar Dr R.S. Sagoo from Phase VI Government Dispensary and it passed through all the Phases of the township, culminating at the Phase VI dispensary. It took the children two and a half hours to cycle throughout Mohali.
Some school teachers also cycled along with the children. The children were carrying placards, banners and were wearing head bands and shirt covers displaying various polio messages like " To play is right fight polio is our duty".
Rotary Club secretary Navneet Saxena said 13,500 children below five years of age have been identified in the township by the Club and health authorities to administer polio drops. For this purpose, 50 booths will set up in SAS Nagar on Sunday.
