CHANDIGARH, Oct 22: Punjab University Students' Union (PUSU) today declared Munish Anand the new chairman of the Association and dissolved their present executive body. Paramjit Singh Sahi was declared acting Association president. Munish Anand, former president of Panjab University Campus Students' Council (PUCSC) and former general secretary of PUSU, replaces Gurwinder Singh Garewal.Addressing mediapersons here today, outgoing chairman Garewal said he was retiring from active student politics and wanted new faces to come into the forefront. He said: "I expect the new office-bearers to continue PUSU's fight against violence". The other office-bearers will be chosen later and their names will be announced by next month, he added.
Munish Anand said: "PUSU will be working out solutions for the problems discussed earlier including activism of the youth welfare department, delays in the declaration of results and reappear chances for students who cannot avail them at present." He said PUSU demands that "the date of declaration of results be announced at the time of announcement of the date of examinations and the result of re-evaluation be declared within 45 days." He said PUSU was also working out new units in colleges "the names of which will be announced next month".
Gurwinder asked other students organisations "to get together and work on common issues pertaining to the malfunctioning of the University administration instead of seeking help from the syndics and the senators".
