CHANDIGARH, Oct 22: The Horticulture Department workers held an agitation in Sector 19 on Friday to protest against the "anti-employee'' policies of the authorities. Under the aegis of the Municipal Corporation Horticulture Union (MCHU), the agitating workers gathered at Horticulture Division-2, a precursor to the dharna being planned on October 26 by the "Coordination Committee of Government and MC Employees and Workers.''Leaders of various unions, while addressing the Horticulture Department workers, came down heavily on the MC and the Chandigarh Ministration for turning down the demands of the employees and also condemned "anti-employee... Central Government, UT Administration and the MC.'' General secretary of the MCHU Ashwini Kumar demanded that the demands of the workers be met immediately.
According to the unions demand, the transferred employees of the department should be treated as being on deputation, bonus and DA released should be at par with the Centre, daily wage workers should be made regular and should also get benefits like HRA and DA, vacant posts should be filled with immediate effect, and the decision to lease out nurseries should be withdrawn.
