Kanwaljit -- I will go in for direction if I get a chance

Amit Roy
PANCHKULA, Oct 22: "If there is anything beyond acting, it is directing and I would certainly like to be a director some day if I get a chance to be one," said Kanwaljit, while talking to reporters here today. He was here on the occasion of the Annual Day celebrations of Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, Panchkula, where he was one of the chief guests.

Kanwaljit has won the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award and the Uptron Best Actor Award, besides being felicitated at various national and international fora. Talking about his entry into acting, he said, "It was all accidental as I never thought that I would ever get into acting because during those days acting was not considered a career. I appeared for many competitions and it was by chance that I made it in the entrance test of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of Pune."

He started his acting career with Chapte Chapte, the first series made by G.P. Sippy. Then came Buniyad, where he performed the role of Satbir for which he is still remembered. He said he spent his formative years in Saharanpur, adding, "Recollecting my yesteryears adds an everlasting freshness in my life and even as for now, things are moving the way I like."

His serials currently on air include Saans and Family No 1, besides others. Talking about those in the pipeline, Kanwaljit said, "I have a whole lot of new serials lined up, including Abhiman and Khushian, which I am sure would offer something unusual for the audience."

Talking about his presence as a chief guest at the school function, he said he loved children and it was the first school function where he was the chief guest. Commenting on the function, he said he had no words for the scintillating performance by the students.
