Vaze girls, Sathaye boys clinch titles

October 22: VG VAZE and Sathaye Colleges won the boys and girls Under-19 volleyball title in the DSO (Division) Inter-school volleyball tournament at Sathaye College today. Vaze served well by Sonal Naik, Deborah Bhonkar, Yogeshwari Shende, Rajeshwari Kulkarni and Sujata Balagopal drubbed RA Podar 25-8 25-8 25-6.

The Sathaye-Burhani final was closer, stretching to four games. Mahesh Kagawale and National Bhavesh Parmar spiked well to rally Burhani, but Jaymin Parab, Ninad More and Yogesh Bhambid helped Sathaye through 25-19 25-16 20-25 25-20. The winners will represent Mumbai in the state championship at Nagar, from November 2-4.

BPCA, Pendharkar on par

BPCA and Pendharkar were tied with equal points as the women's league in the Inter-college handball tournament entered its final phase at Somaiya, Vidyavihar. Both have four points from two matches in the semi-final league. Today, BPCA beat NM Commerce 8-7, while Pendharkar accounted for CHM 2-1.In the men's league, KJ Somaiya Arts and Commerceand Mahatma began their campaigns with rousing wins.

Ruia bow out

Ruia felt the absence of Shalaka Damle today, as they lost 0-2 to St Xavier's College in the women's third round of the Inter-college badminton team championship at University Pavilion today. Shalaka, who had fetched Ruia a title two years back, has given the tournament a miss due to injury.
