RAJKOT, Oct 25: Morbi MLA Kantibhai Amrutia, accused in the murder of former Morbi Mayor Prakashbhai Revashia, has gone on an indefinite fast claiming he has been `wrongly implicated in the murder case'.Amrutia, who is lodged in Morbi jail, is on fast from Sunday evening.
In a statement through his office in Morbi, Amrutia said, ``I have been wrongly implicated in this case. The real culprits dragged my name in to save their skin and have implicated me falsely. I am going on a fast in protest against this injustice.''
Even as Amrutia is fasting inside the jail, some of his supporters have gathered outside. They, along with some party elders, are trying to convince Amrutia to give up the fast since Monday afternoon, but the MLA has refused.
Last week Amrutia's bail application was rejected by the court. To prevent any untoward incident, Rajkot District Collector Praveen Trivedi has rushed to Morbi to take stock of the situation. He held meetings with Deputy Collector Kalpana Mehta, Jail Officer and Mamalatdar H M Jadeja and others to review the situation.
Police, however, were unperturbed. ``We are going ahead with the investigations as usual,'' DSP Rahul Sharma said.
