Mumbai batsmen peak late

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, OCT 25: The Mumbai batsmen came good but it was too late to make an impact in their West Zone Cooch Behar under-19 opener against Maharashtra which concluded at the Wankhede Stadium today. The run-charge was spearheaded by Sushant Manjrekar, who fell short of the three-figure mark by four runs, and Sangram Bagul (51: 92b, 151m, 3x4). The duo were also involved in a 98-run association for the fourth wicket which formed the basis of the side's total of 237. The left-handed Manjrekar's 96 came off 139 balls and was inclusive of seven boundaries and a six. His vigil lasted more than three hours.

In fact, once these two departed, the innings lasted just 57 runs during which six wickets fell.

Off-spinner Kashinath Khadkikar (5-80) was once again Mumbai's nemisis and ended up with a match-haul of 11-122. Left-arm spinner Sayeed Khot, cleaned up the tail to end up with three wickets for 60.

Maharashtra, who needed 218 runs for an outright victory off 40 overs, were content in gaining batting practice asthey ended the day at 88-2. The visitors thus garnered five points from the encounter while Mumbai had to settle for three which could well have been more had they not let the opposition of the hook.
