Award for school in GoregaonThe Indian Leprosy Foundation, a voluntary organisation involved in leprosy eradication, presented its Mother Teresa Memorial Award to Gokuldham High School, Goregaon, for its social work and resource mobilisation in the field, today. The foundation also donated Rs 35 lakh to 68 projects in various schools and other voluntary organsiations.
RPI calls for rail roko today
The Republican Party of India (RPI) today called for `rail roko' in Mumbai tomorrow to protest against the supreme court ruling which said that candidates who had got jobs through the reservation quota would not be entitled to seniority over general category employees as a matter of right.
Ramdas Athawale, RPI president also took exception to the supreme court rulingthat admission into super speciality levels of medicine and engineering faculties should be on the basis of "merit alone" and not reservations.
Trade mission from UK
The United Kingdom's Mid-Yorkshire Chamber of Commerceand Industry Ltd (MYCCI) will bring its 12th consecutive trade mission to Mumbai on November 1 as part of its five-day long India visit.The goal of the mission is to make contracts and consolidate existing ones. Thirteen companies are participating in this year's mission, representating a range of industry sectors, including consumer goods, engineering and chemicals. The companies include Cambridge International Examinations and Vocational Qualifications for the corporate sector, Digital Engineering Ltd, which designs and manufactures ISDN products, and McCalls Special Products Ltd.
CRY against child labour
For Diwali, the Youth Wing of Child Relief and You (CRY) and Naujawan-E-Hind (NEH), a street theater group, have organised a musical programme where Shaan and Sagarika, Shankar Mahadevan and Glee Hive - a group promoting musical talent among children - will perform. It will take place on November 3 at Azad Maidan between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm.
This programme will be preceded by street playswith the theme of child labour at Sivakasi. Four schools and three colleges will perform these plays in the morning at 80 locations in the city.
