GEB promises improvement

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Oct 27: Engineers of the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) have resolved to improve the performance by 25 per cent in their respective fields within four months.

This was following an appeal by Board chairman Nalin Bhatt at a meeting of engineers from the western region held in Rajkot on Tuesday.

The fields in which the engineers promised improvement include revenue, decreasing transmission and distribution losses, drive against power pilferers and repair of transformers.

Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel lauded the efforts of the Board's Surendranagar division in completing in a record time work related to electricity to make water available in Surendranagar and Wadhwan areas. An estimated Rs 1.31 crore was spent on electrical fittings. The work was completed in 40 days.

Bhatt reiterated that he would not tolerate any malpractice in the Board.

He said that despite constraints, the Board was providing electricity as per the necessary requirements, and that there was no cut even in the industrial sector. He recalled that efforts have been made to ensure that the GEB gets good quality coal from the coal fields.

Members of the GEB Engineers Association, who retired on the occasion, also remained present.
