CHANDIGARH, Oct 31: It was a night to remember for hundreds of couples who turned up for the Halloween party at the Jail House Rock here as they got a chance to dance with MTV VJ Malaika Arora Khan. The discotheque was all set for the evening and the party took off with a masquerade by models dressed up as witches, pussy cats, and vampires. Lights went off as the hostess Neeru, dressed as witch took on the stage. Suddenly appeared a coffin in the centre of the dance floor which was guarded by two vampires who pulled out two witches who walked down on the dance floor and were followed by the other models dressed as witches.
The models dressed as witches in Burkas and the vampires walked down and soon the coffin opened and there came the much awaited moment of the night. It was the dazzling and smiling Malaika as she lifted her Burka veil and the excited crowd whistled, shouted and vied to have a glimpse of their favourite model and MTV VJ.
Malaika took on the mike and picked up two chits of names from the crowd who asked questions from her. One asked when she had learnt dancing and the other asked why she had married Arbaz Khan. Malaika proved her spontaneity and intellect.
Earlier Malaika talked Newsline about her entry into modelling. She said: "My sister was shooting for some campaign some six years back that someone discovered me and suggested me to try my luck in the glamour industry. And soon I saw myself as the cover girl of Society magazine."
She recalled doing ads for Benzer, Coke, Tanishq, Wrigleys, MR Coffee and others. She says, "I was only 17 when I got modelling assignments. As far as acting in films is concerned it's again a matter of time and only if I get good roles." She added that she loves being a VJ and will continue with her work as a VJ for the time being. As for the future she "has no plans as destiny can take you anywhere".
On how she met Arbaz Khan, she says that they had done the controversial MR Coffee ad together. She adds that the ad was not really controversial but the attitude of viewers made it so.
Talking about the Halloween concept, Malaika says, "The concept is fairly popular in the west and is fast picking up in our country as well but many still are unaware what it is all about."
The event was arranged by Sunayana Bhinder of X-Factor Enterprises.
