PUNE, Oct 31: The Pune branch of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) will be going on a one-day token strike from 6 am on Monday to press for their various demands including central parity in pay scales.The MARD today submitted a memorandum to the dean of the B J Medical College announcing its decision to participate in the Statewide strike on Monday. The resident doctors also announced that the agitation would be intensified if the demands are not considered before November 22.
The list of demands include central parity in pay scales for resident and intern doctors, and be made applicable with retrospective effect from January 1997, no further increases in any expense of registered and unregistered resident doctors and reduction in excessive fees charged by the BMC.
The doctors have also demanded that there should be no further decrease in existing number of resident doctors or postgraduate registrations. For regulation of work load the doctors have sought an increase in number of registered and unregistered doctors in all medical colleges, a twelve hours off after night duty. They have also demanded upliftment of facilities for resident doctors, and upgradation of all departments in medical colleges and hospitals.
