Mood mellow as Pope is set to arrive today
The mood was mellow on the eve of the visit by Pope John Paul II as the Vajpayee Government geared up to face its first major diplomatic challenge in its second coming.
Armed forces battle epidemic now
A full six days after the worst cyclone of the century ravaged the Orissa coast the Armed Forces on Thursday launched operations on a war-footing to prevent outbreak of epidemic amidst figures of the casualties trickling in with the death toll hovering around 960.
SAARC summit off on India's request
Only for the second time in its 14-year-old history, the SAARC summit has been postponed. India announced that it had formally asked for the deferment of the summit, slated for November 26-28, in Kathmandu.
