Aid for Orissa
The Gujarat Senior Citizens' Federation has expressed their sorrow for families affected by the Orissa cyclone. Its members have decided to celebrate Diwali also in a simple manner. Faiyaz b'day
To mark the birth anniversary of vocalist Faiyaz Khan, the Prasar Bharati has organised a musical night at Gandhi Nagar Gruh on Friday. Among others Padma Talwalkar, Arun Kashalkar and Arvind Parikh of Mumbai will present their recitals.

Fireworks
On the occasion of Diwali, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation will organise a display of fireworks at Polo Ground at 7 pm on Friday.

Lake fountain
A floating fountain will be installed in the Sursagar lake by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation at a cost of Rs 7.70 lakh to aerate the water body. Dropping oxygen levels have frequently killed large numbers of fish in the lake.

Ph.D awarded
Mahesh Dalal has been awarded a doctoral in Chemistry by M S University for his thesis on `Some Studies on Polymer-Supported Transition Metal Complex Catalysts'. His research guide was R N Ram.

Stir threat
The Khedut Bachao Samiti, under the leadership of Vadodara District Panchayat vice-president Ilaba Jadeja, has threatened to launch an agitation on Gandhian lines if any move was made to acquire land in Ankhol, Bapod and Khantkhana for Larsen & Toubro.
