Secy issue too trivial -- V-C

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, Nov 4: Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia said here today that the matter of appointment of Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor was ``too trivial an issue for the Vice-Chancellor to comment''.

Addressing a press conference here today, the Vice-Chancellor skirted questions on the appointment of Mohinder Singh, Deputy Registrar, as new Secretary earlier this week following the sack of previous incumbent Tirath Singh. He said that the matter was hardly of any consequence for him to comment upon.

Mohinder Singh was appointed as Secretary to replace Tirath Singh. The latter was removed as secretary for his alleged role in inclusion of certain items in the agenda for the Syndicate meeting held on October 26 allegedly without the approval of the Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor had set up a two-member probe panel which included Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Ram Murti Goel and Registrar Ranbir Singh Sarao.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor said the two-day Diwali Mela organised for the first time on the university campus, which concluded today, was a big hit. Vice-Chancellor Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia added, that on popular demand it had been decided that Baisakhi Mela would also be organised on the campus.
