PATIALA, Nov 4: The five farmers' organisations have threatened to intensify their agitation if the state government fails to revoke hike in prices of diesel and other essential commodities. These organisations -- Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta), Punjab Kisan Union, Kirti Kisan Union and two Kisan sabhas -- organised a four-hour dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office here today.
On the occasion, BKU (Ekta) general-secretary Gurmit Singh Ditupur, Inderjit Singh Bhagdana, Mohinder Singh, Gurnam Singh and Bhupinder Sambher (all from the Kisan sabhas) accused the state government of following anti-farmer policies. They appealed to the state government to order immediate withdrawal of hike in diesel prices so that the farmers may get some relief.
Gurmit Singh Ditupur said the organisations have called an urgent meeting at Jalandhar on November 6 to chalk out future action plan.
