EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, NOV 5: A head constable posted with Faraskhana police station opened fire in the air with his licensed 12 bore gun when a group of over 25 persons allegedly attacked his residence at Gurav Pimple last night. The incident took place shortly after the policeman's son and his friend attacked two neighbours, police said. Three persons including the head constable, Babasaheb Sahebrao Karpe (46), Rahul Vitthal Dhiwar (23) and his brother Vinod (24) were injured in the attack.

Karpe, his son Sachin (19) and Sachin's friend Uttam Janardhan Dhere (18) were arrested and slapped with attempting to murder Dhiwar brothers and other neighbours after Rahul lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against them at the Chatushrungi police station.

Karpe had also lodged a cross complaint accusing Rahul Dhiwar, Vinod Dhiwar, Raja Landge and twenty five others of attacking his residence following a quarrel over petty matters. No arrests have been made so far in connection with Karpe's complaint.

Police said Rahul Dhiwarstated that he had a heated argument with Karpe over petty matters at around 8 pm. Shortly after that, they added, Sachin Karpe and Uttam Dhere attacked the Dhiwar brothers with swords.

According to police, a group of stick wielding men gheraoed Karpe's house and indulged in stone pelting at 11.45 pm. They dispersed after Karpe fired a bullet in the air, the police added.

Tension mounted in the area after the incident. The situation came under control after senior police officials including Additional Commissioner of Police M S Maheshgauri, Deputy Commissioners Sanjay Varma and Surinder Kumar, Assistant Commissioners D S Tompe and P N Ingale and Inspector M B Apune held a series of meetings with the irate residents.
