Delay in release of revised pay irks AIFUTA

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Nov 5: The local All-India Federation of University Teachers' Association (AIFUTA) unit today condemned the failure of the various states to implement the revision of university teachers' pay scales due since January 1, 1996. The states that have invited the ire of the AIFUTA are Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar.

The AIFUTA further said in a statement: "AIFUTA also expresses its strong concern over the undue delay in the release of pay revision by the state governments such as Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur and Maharashtra, where the pay revision has been implemented after prolonged struggle of the university teachers."

"The states have retained the money by the excuse of lack of funds. And since the other government employees have not been deprived of the benefit, why should the teachers suffer?" asks Dr Satya P. Gautam of the AIFUTA. Punjab Government released the arrears of the pay revision since 1996, today.
