Sabade in Labour Commission
Dr B R Sabade, executive director of the Institute of Small Business and Industry has been recently appointed by the Government of India as a full time member on the recently appointed Labour Commission. Sabade who retired as the Secretary General of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture has authored 14 books. The labour commission is expected to review the entire gamut of labour laws and labour policy and suggest appropriate changes in view of the rapid economic and technological changes taking place.

Sancheti appointed
Noted orthopaedic surgeon Dr K H Sancheti has been recently appointed honorary consultant in orthopaedics to the Armed Forces Medical Services. Sancheti is the medical director of the Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.

Felicitation programme today
Eminent lyricist Sudhir Moghe, music director Anand Modak, compere Sudhir Gadgil, dancer Manisha Sathe, and actor Faiyyaz will be felicitated by the Pimpri-Chinchwad unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Natya Parishad on the occasion of `Jagatik Marathi Natyabhoomi din' on November 6.

State cultural minister Ramkrishna More who will be the chief guest will also felicitate local artistes in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The programme will be held at 5 pm.

Prayer service on Sunday
A special prayer service will be conducted to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the All Saints church at Khadki on Sunday. The prayer will be led by Rev Jacob Thomas and the brass band from the Bombay Engineering Group will also play on the occasion. Members from all the congregations have been invited to join in the prayer and celebrate the anniversary.

NOS' course in rural health
With almost 75 per cent of the country's population living in villages rural health is one area that needs a lot of attention. Keeping this in mind the National Open School (NOS) has decided to launch a vocational certificate course in rural health.

According to a release from the NOS the proposed course aims to develop a curriculum for the rural people, especially women. Through self awareness and and self help, the course will enable the people to play an important role in improving their hygiene and access medical facilities.

A workshop to frame the curriculum and implementation strategies was inaugurated on Thursday at the NOS regional centre at the hands of Dr Chitra Naik, former member of the planning commission.

Chain-snatcher nabbed
Ganesh Lahu Athavale, a 20-year-old youth from Thergaon, was today arrested by Pimpri police on charges of relieving a woman of her gold chain at the overbridge linking Pimpri with Kalewadi.

Police said Reena Praveen Varma (26) was walking on the overbridge along with her daughter when Athawale snatched her chain on Friday afternoon. A team of Pimpri police, which was patrolling in the area, nabbed Athavale following a brief chase after Reena Varma cried for help.
