Suicide threat sends cops on wild goose chase

PUNE, Nov 5: A self-immolation threat by the director of an educational institution for handicapped in Osmanabad today sent the Bund Garden police on a wild goose chase.

A heavy bandobast was deployed at the Social Welfare Directorate near the Pune police commissionerate after Dayanand Bhosale threatened that he would self-immolate to protest against the Social Welfare Department's decision to cancel the grants to his institution. Bhosale called off the protest after discussing the matter with the officials concerned.

Inspector in-charge of Bund Garden police station Vishwas Patil said three sub inspectors, 10 constables and 20 personnel of Pune police striking force were deployed at the Social Welfare Directorate to foil any self immolation bid since 2 pm.
