PMC sanctions Rs 46 lakh for waste incinerators

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Nov 5: The Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation recently sanctioned an amount of Rs. 46 lakh to purchase two incinerators to dispose hospital waste.

Committee chairman Arun Dhimdhime told mediapersons that two incinerators, which would also be made available for private hospitals, would be installed at strategic points after holding negotiations with the medical fraternity. He said the PMC had already installed an incinerator, which was also available for private hospitals. Dhimdhime said thePMC would recover nominal charges from private hospitals for extending the service to them.

The issue of hospital waste had rocked the city few months back when an employee of a prominent private hospital was arrested by the police while selling hospital waste in the market.
