GNDU, Delhi varsity win titles

CHANDIGARH, Nov 5: Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Delhi University, Delhi, grabbed men's and women's titles, respectively, in the North Zone Inter-University table tennis tournament which concluded here today at the Panjab University Indoor Hall.

GND University beat Panjab University, Chandigarh 3-0 and Delhi University got the better of GND University 3-1 to take home the women's trophy.PU men's team got second position while CCS University, Meerut were third in the same group.

In the women's category GND University were second followed by PU girls who took the third spot.

All the four teams in both men's and women's group who were semifinalists have also qualified for the All India Inter-University championships to be held at Gwalior from November 29.
Results:

Men (final): GNDU, Amritsar bt PU Chandigarh 3-0 (Manish Bhardwaj bt Anoop KC 11-21, 21-16, 21-16; Dheeraj Arora bt Tarun Akku 21-119, 21-10; Vikram Aditya bt Deepak Sharma 21-13, 18-21, 21-11).
Women (final): Delhi University bt GNDU 3-1 (Ishani Baruah bt Shikha 7-21, 21-14, 24-22; Ekta Bhambri bt Anu 21-9, 21-11; Ravjeet Kaur lost to Kuldeep Kaur 21-12, 19-21, 16-21; Ekta Bhambri bt Shikha 21-8, 21-11).

SD-32 win
SD Public School Sector 32 beat Government Model School-19 by two goals to nil in the Chandigarh State Inter-School football tournament for boys at Govt Model School in Sector 22, today.

Ankur Chopra and Kuljeet scored for SD-32.

In another match Govt Model School-40 beat GMS-22 by 2-0. After a barren first half, Ajit Chaudhary netted twice for winning team.

Meanwhile GMS-19 have lodged a protest against SD-32 for fielding outsiders in the match. According to Karan Singh, sports secretary (boys section) `investigation is on, and if SD School players are found illegible, the team will be scratched from the meet.' A protest has also been lodged against Sanjay Public School-44, for fielding illegible player in the meet.
