PUNE, NOV 7: About 35,000 State Government employees in the district will receive their bonus after Diwali "due to the delay in making an announcement about the government policy about the disbursement of the bonus".The government resolution on the disbursement of bonus reached some State Government offices on Saturday afternoon, barely 24 hours before the festival begins. However, the GR was not received in many offices located in remote parts of the district. Only Deputy Director (Treasury) and the Government treasury had submitted pay bills for disbursement of bonus to their employees till Saturday, according to State Government Employees Union leader Narayan Joshi. However, Joshi said, the actual disbursement of bonus will take at least a fortnight due to the lengthy procedure involved in it. As per the procedure, various government offices prepare the pay bills and submit them to the government treasury. The treasury, in turn, hands over the cheques of bonus amount to the concerned departments.
Theactual disbursement of bonus takes place only after these cheques are encashed. CM Vilasrao Deshmukh had decided that the State Government employees will be paid bonus for the year 1998-99 in cash after a meeting with representatives of the employees' union.
