PALAKKAD, NOV 7: The residents of Pulapatta, the native place of Radhakrishnan (25) who fell to the bullets of Pakistan-sponsored mercenaries in Kashmir, paid a tearful homage to the jawan as he was cremated at his ancestral house on Saturday.Radhakrishnan, who was the third son of Kittakutti Mannadiar and Ammukkutty of Chemoth House, was killed on November 3.
On November 4, his body was brought to New Delhi from Kashmir and kept at the Army Hospital mortuary. A guard of honour was given to the body at the Army Headquarters there. The body was flown to Coimbatore on Saturday. District Collector Ellangovan received the body on behalf of the Government at the airport at 2.45 pm. Havildar Asokan, a native of Vallikkunnam in Mavelikara taluk, accompanied the body from New Delhi.
From Palakkad, the body was taken by road to Pulapatta where thousands of people had gathered to pay their last respects to the brave jawan who laid his life for the country. The body was kept at the M N K M Girls Vocational HigherSecondary School at Pulapatta, where an unending stream of people queued up to have a glimpse of the jawan.
Ellangovan laid a wreath on the body at the school on behalf of the State Government, the Chief Minister and the Governor. Jose Baby, MLA, laid a wreath on behalf of Revenue Minister K E Ismail. Among others who laid wreaths included Girija Surendran, MLA, K V Vijayadas, president of the district panchayat, N N Krishnadas, MP, K S Saleegha, president of the block panchayat, and Ravindranath, president of the Katampazhipuram grama panchayat.
