Parsee, Hindu force honourable draw

MUMBAI, NOV 7: A 118-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Vinod Kini (64) and left-hander Arun Shetty (54) fetched Parsee Gymkhana an honourable draw against Catholic Gymkhana on the second day of the Police Invitaion Cricket Shield Tournament, sponsored by Jayantilal Khandwala & Sons and Khandwala Securities at the Parsee Gymkhana here on Sunday.

Parsee Gymkhana, in deficit of 118 runs on the first innings, were struggling at 56 for seven in their second essay. However, the eighth wicket pair helped them to score 223. Catholic needing 106 runs in seven overs for an outright win could only muster 50 for four at close.

Superb medium-pace bowling performances by Jagdish Shetty (5-25) and Uday Karkera (3-45) helped MIG, Bandra to bundled out PJ Hindu Gymkhana for 89, in reply to their total of 282. But PJ Hindu Gymkhana did well in the second innings scoring 182 for seven at close.

A fine knock by left-hander Jatin Paranjpe (90: 7x4, 1x6) was instrumental in Cricket Club of India's drawing theirgame with defending champions National Cricket Club.

A fine all round performance by K Jayantilal (65 n.o. & 3-6) was not enough as Bombay Gymkhana drew with Islam Gymkhana.

MCA Colts 337 (PrafulDhule 96, Nilesh Patwardhan 35, Kiran Powar 78, Amol Muzumdar 90; Ramesh Powar 5-128) drew with Mumbai City Police 307-7 (Mobin Shaikh 49, Suhas Mayekar 43, Sulakshan Kulkarni 92, Lalchand Rajput 38; Sandeep Dahad 4-52). Bombay Gymkhana 402-5 decl drew with Islam Gymkhana 241 (Sunil Malik 34, Zahid Shaikh 71, Shahabaz Khan 35, Mubarak Shaikh 50; Dinesh Sabnis 3-40, K Jayantilal 3-16) & 132-2 (Sunil Malik 49, Shakil Shaikh 52 n.o.).

Jaswaneel Pawar shines
MCA, New Mumbai, comprising nine players of Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, scored an emphatic eight-wicket win over Chembur Gymkhana in the Worli SC under-14 cricket tournament at the Worli ground, today. Jaswaneel Pawar, who claimed two for 10 and scored an unbeaten 31, was declared man of the match.

Brief scores: Chembur Gymkhana 79 (Abhishek Denzil 3-20, Deepak Rajwokar 3-17) lost to MCA New Mumbai 80-2 (Jaswaneel Pawar 31 n.o.). MoM: Jaswaneel Pawar (MCA New Mumbai).
