UP woman commits sati
HAMIRPUR:
In a shocking incident, a young woman ended her life by jumping into the funeral pyre of her husband in village Satpurwa in Mohaba district of Uttar Pradesh here, police said on Friday. The woman, dressed in bridal finery, jumped into the pyre on Thursday in the presence of hundreds of villagers who raised slogans of `Jai Sati Maiya'.

Police said the young woman had announced that she would end her life on her husband's funeral pyre. People of adjoining areas flocked the village, some 100-km from here, to witness the gruesome incident. Additional District Magistrate Mahoba Chintamani said the authorities were still ascertaining the facts and circumstances leading to the incident.

Tripura students lift roadblock
AGARTALA:
The week-long road-block agitation launched by school students in Kalyanpur area of West Tripura district has been lifted, following the assurance by the district administration that the State would take measures to release the threeabducted students. The decision to withdraw the blockade was taken last night after a series of meetings between the student leaders of 15 schools and district magistrate Manoj Kumar and S P Rajiv Singh at Kalyanpur, official sources said here today.

Naxals set wine shop afire
HYDERABAD:
NAXALITES of the banned People's War Group (PWG) set afire a wine shop at Srirampur village in Adilabad district last night. Four naxals went to the shop at about 9 pm and after sprinkling petrol, they torched it, police said here today.

The action was because the shop owner continued selling liquor at a high price despite being warned, police added.
