KHARAR, Nov 12: As per directions of the Punjab Department of Local Government, Kurali Municipal Council has decided to electrify all the slum areas and colonies of Kurali township, as well as Chanalon Focal Point, which falls under Kurali municipal limits, within the next few weeks.A resolution to this effect was unanimously adopted at a special meeting of the Municipal Council held at Kurali, on Thursday.
Kurali MC executive officer Avtar Krishan Mehta today disclosed that Kurali Municipal Council had also decided to revise the existing rates of water supply and charge new water supply rates fixed by the state government, with immediate effect. Besides, the newly-revised building by laws, approved by the state government, have also been adopted by Kurali MC, he said.
Mehta added that Kurali MC chief Jaswinder Singh Goldy, with the help of all the municipal councillors, had arranged to send a truck-load of relief material for the cyclone-hit people of Orissa.
1 killed, another injured in mishap
Amardeep Kaur was killed on the spot, while Jaspal Kaur sustained serious injuries when the scooter on which they were riding (PB-27-A-2918), was hit by a speeding Tata Sumo (PB-23-3682), on the Kharar-Morinda highway, near Gharuan village, about six kilometres from here, on Thursday. The driver of the Tata Sumo, Jaswant Singh, has been booked under Sections 279/304-A of the IPC.
One booked for attempt to murder
Kharar police have booked Rajinder Kumar Jain (30) of Tohana (Haryana) for allegedly making a bid on the life of Mukesh Kumar (22), a local resident, and causing him injuries. The accused, who surrendered after committing the crime, has been booked under Sections 307/324 of the Indian Penal Code. Mukesh has been admitted to the PGI, where he was reportedly struggling for his life.
