PUNE, Nov 12: Rajashri Gunjal, a teenaged newly wed from Belhe village in Junnar taluka, recently ended her life allegedly because she was being harassed by her husband and in-laws over dowry demand.Rajashri's husband Dhananjay, father-in-law Shankar, mother-in-law Godabai and sister-in-law Kusum were arrested by Pune rural police after Rajashri's parents lodged a first information report (FIR) against them at Narayangaon police station.
Police said Rajashri married Dhananjay Gunjal in May this year. Dhananjay and his relatives were allegedly harassing her since then over the demand that she should bring half a tola of gold and Rs 52,000 from her parents.
A frustrated Rajashri committed suicide by jumping into a well near her residence two days back, according to the police.
Charged with rape: Govind Deoram Chavan, a 18-year-old youth from Pedgaon village near Daund who had eloped with his teenaged lover from Marunji village in Maval taluka, has been slapped with abduction and rape charges by Talegaon Dabhade police.
Police said Chavan lured the 14-year-old girl to Supa village in Baramati taluka by promising to marry her. He allegedly raped her on several occasions between October 31 and November 11 but refused to get married. He also threatened the girl that he would commit suicide if she complained to anyone about the incident, according to the police.
