ACB refutes allegations
Ahmednagar: The Ahmednagar Cantonment Board (ACB) has refuted the charges levelled against it by the Bharatiya Janata Party Bhingar unit president Balasaheb Nagpure as totally baseless and unsubstantiated.Nagpure had alleged that the ACB was responsible for mismanagement of funds and lack of foresightedness in its work. ACB chief executive officer Suarav Ray in a statement said that all works of the board were being carried out as per specifications. The threat of legal action against the ACB and allegations are false, malicious and defamatory, the statement said. Nagpure presumably had a personal grudge against the board as he was denied permission to build an unauthorised stall in the cantonment, the statement added.
Vasantdada anniversary
Sangli: A farmers' rally will be organised in the city tomorrow on the occasion of the 82nd birth anniversary of former chief minister Vasantdada Patil. Prakashbapu Patil, chairman of the Vasantdada Cooperartive Sugar Factory and MP, said that the rally will be attended by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj Patil and many ministers from the State cabinet.
Raids on video theatres
Solapur: District Collector Deepak Kapoor recently raided three video theatres in the city which were found screening blue films. Licences of all these theatres have been suspended with immediate effect. It was also found that the owners of the video theatres were not paying entertainment taxes. Criminal cases have been lodged against owners of all the three video theatres.
The blue films seized during the raids have been deposited with the office of the police commissioner.
Award for Setalvad
Satara: Testa Setalvad, editor of Combat Communalism, has been selected for an award instituted by the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Academy in memory of veteran writer R B Joshi.
Balyogi assures
Ahmednagar: Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balyogi has assured that he would extend his cooperation to seek double railway line on Daund-Manmad route.
Balyogi gave this assurance during his visit to the Sai Baba temple at Shirdi on Thursday. He said that doubling the railway line will help a large number of devotees from Andhra Pradesh who come to visit the Shirdi pilgrim centre. On his arrival, the Lok Sabha Speaker was received by State Legislative Council chairman N S Pharande and Dilip Gandhi, MP.
