HIMACHAL PLAYER ECLIPSES HANIF'S MARK
CHAMBA: Rajeev Nayyar, skipper of Himachal Pradesh, has set a new record for the longest stay at the wicket,surpassing the record set by Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad.
Nayyar stayed at the crease for 1,017 minutes scoring 271 runs in a North Zone Ranji tie against Jammu and Kashmir last Wednesday to break Hanif's record of 970 minutes against West Indies at Bridgetown in January, 1958. Hanif scored 337 runs in that match to see Pakistan draw the match.
Nayyar has so far hit up 4,550 Ranji runs with the help of 15 centuries. He pushed Bhupinder Singh Jr of Punjab (297 runs in 785 minutes) against Delhi in 1994-95 to second place. (UNI)
