Nitish stuns third seed Meghan

NOVEMBER 12: Nitesh Bhat of Manjunath Vidyalaya, Dombivli, Nadeem Abdulla of Fr Agnel, Vashi and Siddharth Kotian of Vidya Vikasini, Vashi share the lead with five points from five rounds in the Bournvita Inter-Schools Chess Tournament being held at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, Vile Parle.The tournament is being sponsored by London School of Economics and Infiniti Infotech India.

Nitesh upset State No 3 in the under-9 section, Meghan Gupte of SIA School, Dombivli. In the fourth round, top seed Karan Ajinkya of Yashodham, Goregaon, was shocked by Parth Agarwal of Gokuldham, Goregaon.

In the boys under-12 section, Vinaykumar M of Abhinav Vidyalaya, Dombivli, Akash and twin brother Ambar Khalwadekar of Stanislaus, bandra, Ninad Puranik of St. John the Baptist, Thane, Yashodhan Gogte of Bombay Scottish, Mahim, Sarvesh Karambelkar of Tilaknagar Vidyanagar Dombivli and Prerak Chowdhary of Scholsr are the joint leaders with four points.

Results

Boys (Under-12, 4th round): R Chandrashekar3.5 points drew Ashay Awate 3.5; Sahil Mujumdar 3 lost to M Vijaykumar 4; Vishal Shah 3.5 drew Aditya Vora 3.5; Akarsh Rai 3 lost to Akash Khalwadekar 4; Ambar Khalwadekar 4 bt Avinash Shetty 3.

Under-8 (5th round): Meghan Gupte 4 lost to Nitesh Bhat 5; Nadeem Abdulla 5 bt Aditya Udeshi 4; Parth Aggarwal 4 lost to Akshat Kundalia 5; Amogh Wajandar 4 lost to Siddharth Kotian 5; Karan Ajinkya 4 bt Omkar Joshi 3.

Girls (Under-12, 5th round): Niharika Thakkar 5 bt Vaishali Kulkarni 4; Nikita Brahme 4 bt Tanvi Thakur 3.5; Purva Variyar 4 drew Sheetal Birajdar 3.5; Mrudula nambiar 4 bt Mugdha Variyar 3; Prajakta Yeole 4 bt Vandita Agarwal 3.
