Dev Samaj-21 cagers win title

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Nov 12: The final match played between hosts IS Dev Samaj School-21 and Bhavan Vidyalaya-27, was expected to be a keen tussle but it turned out to be dull drab affair at the Dev Samaj School court today on the concluding day of the Central Board of Secondary Education Cluster XI basketball tournament.

Three points in the first ten minutes of play was evidence of the hollowness which the competition had for the few spectators present to witness the contest. When Dev Samaj-21 took their first time out they were leading by 3-0. By then match was 12 minutes old. Dev Samaj-21 team despite having some regular trainees of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Hostel in Sector 18,in their rank could not make the score board moving.

On the other hand nothing seems to be on the right track for Bhavan Vidyalaya team in the match today. Firstly, some of the team members arrived late at the venue. And then during the play, they were unable to coordinate. They miss-passed and fumbled under the rival basket on several occasion, which showed them the exit door.

In the second session, Manpreet and Navneet, who failed to score on the rebound in the first half, pulled up heir sleeves and sunk eight points each to give Dev Samaj-21, winning edge and the title. For Bhavan Vidyalaya-27, Rangita and Nisha sunk three points each.

Earlier, Carmel Convent School-9 beat Sacred Heart School-26, 27-15, to win third place.

Neha top scored with 17 points for the winners while Ayesha Bal contributed 8 points to the total.

Manik (7) and Mehak (4) scored for the losers.
