One more gastro death
Ahmedabad:
One more gastro-enteritis death was reported from Darzi ni Chali near Asarwa overbridge on Saturday, taking the toll in the area to five. So far, as many as 30 cases of gastro have been reported from the slum areas of Darzi ni Chali, the nearby Pathan ni Chali and Jugaldas ni Chali. The patient who died on Saturday was a one-and-a-half-month-old girl Shamimbanu.

Four fires
Four fires were reported in the city on Sunday. Two persons sustained minor burn injuries following a fire due to LPG leakage in Samata Apartments, Keshavnagar in Sabarmati area. Furniture worth Rs 1 lakh was destroyed in the fire. The second fire in Sabarmati occurred around 10 am in Pritam stores at Jawahar Chowk in Sabarmati. In a fire that broke out in Gopi synthetics on the Narol-Vatva road, 15,000 metres of cloth was burnt. Another fire was reported on Sunday morning from Dhanasuthar ni pole where furniture worth Rs 5,000 was damaged.

Donation
Swami Shivanand Centre, Ahmedabad, has donated Rs 2 lakhs for relief work in Orissa. The centre is also planning to adopt a cyclone-ravaged village in Orissa and rehabilitate its residents.

Re-elected
Atul Kothari has been re-elected as the national general secretary of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Kothari has been associated with the organisation for nearly two decades. He was state secretary of Gujarat in 1988 and later held the responsibility of State joint organising secretary from 1991 to last year. Dineshanand Kothari of Jamshedpur (Bihar) has been elected as the all-India president of the organisation.

Meeting
Union Minister of State for Defence Harin Pathak will meet people at his Prankunj Society residence `Madhuram' on Monday between 11 and 1 pm. Pathak has also conveyed New Year greetings to the people.

No water
Rajkot:
The RMC has announced that the water in Aji-1 dam, which supplies drinking water to Rajkot city, has completely dried up. There was a plan to bring water from the 14 borewells dug in the Lalpari Sandarda talav but the pipeline between the talav and Aji Dam filtration plant has not been completed till today.
