CHANDIGARH, Nov 14: The UT police arrested 19 persons from Colony Number 5 in a search operation in the wee hours today. The police detained 96 of them but released most of them after verification. The police of the entire division headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police B.S. Bector cordoned off the area shortly after midnight. Around 4 a.m., the police started the combing operations which continued till about 7 a.m.
During this period, the police rounded up 96 suspicious persons and 19 of them put under arrest for roaming around under suspicious circumstances. It may be recalled that on Friday, UT Senior Superintendent of Police Parag Jain had said that the police would shortly begin house-to-house searches in the colonies, villages and other residential areas, particularly on the outskirts of the city.
The police are targeting those living above their means, besides looking for weapons or other objectionable stuff. This, the SSP had said, was being done to keep a check on crime and also in view of the incidents of robbery occurring in the neighbouring towns.
