CHANDIGARH, Nov 14: The local unit of Janata Party has demanded an enquiry into the evasion of entertainment duty by the CII during the CII Fair '99 at Parade Ground Sector 17.According to unit president Ajay Jagga, "An entry fee of Rs 10 was charged from the people at the fair. No serial numbers were printed on the tickets. This means they never paid the entertainment duty to UT Administration, which is in violation of the Punjab Entertainments Duty Act as applicable to Chandigarh. According to the Act, wherever a ticket is issued for the purpose of securing an admission for entertainment, the duty is payable."
Jagga said serial number should be printed on tickets to help assess the number of tickets issued and the amount of duty payable. But the CII tickets had no numbers, he added. Jagga has sought an enquiry into the matter and recovery of entertainment duty along with interest and penalty.
