Gladrags Mega Model delights kids

Amit Roy
CHANDIGARH, Nov 14: There was excitement in the air as high-spirited kids were ready to set the dance floor on fire at the Jail House Rock in Sector 17 here. The event was the Children's Day Carnival which had been organised by the Young Express Club in association with the X-factor enterprises, which also launched its new division called "Lollipops- the party boppers" which will organise theme parties for children, shows, functions and competitions at schools.

The venue was decorated like a fairyland with Disneyland characters, teddy bears, clowns, bunny rabbits, fairies, Santa Claus moving around and interacting with the children. `The other attractions of the show were puppet shows, magic shows, bouncers, swings, camel rides, monkey shows and many other surprises for the children.

The compere of the programme was dressed up as a bunny rabbit and many games and competitions were organised on the occasion. The biggest surprise of the evening was the Gladrags Mega Model, Anchal Kumar who took on the stage and danced with the kids. She also shared a few moments with the inmates of the Mother Teresa Home for the orphans.

She talked to Newsline about her venture into the world of glamour. "Though I am based at Mumbai now but my career took off from the City Beautiful," said a radiant Anchal. She adds: "Three years back, the ABCL launched its talent search campaign and I was the one who got through from Chandigarh." Anchal then went in for the Gladrags Mega Model Contest in March this year. "My joy knew no bounds when I emerged as the winner and then represented India in Germany at the Miss Intercontinental Contest."

Anchal has done many ads like for "Diet Coke", "Sunsilk", "Rexona Deo", "Candico", "Ranger Cycles" and a lot more. Also, she has been doing ramp modelling for the past few years now. A second year student of Psychology, Anchal says: "Life has really been hectic ever since I have been into modelling. This year I have already travelled abroad 15 times and fashion shows and other events keep me busy. I had to miss a few offers as I was to come here for my sister's wedding, but I am leaving after five days to be back with the same routine."

Anchal's dream is to be into films and says: "I have been getting many offers and I am also considering a few of them. As for the moment, I am enjoying my title till March next year." She has done a few music videos and another one is in the pipeline but when asked about it she said: "This is not the right time to divulge the name but it will surely be something worth watching."

A Scorpion, Anchal said being with kids and specially the orphans was an experience that has left memories to last a lifetime. "I was touched to see innocent faces beaming with happiness. I cancelled all my appointments when I got to know that orphan children had been invited here and I feel privileged that my presence could make them happy. We all must contribute towards making this world a better place to live in," she adds.
