While inaugurating the event organised by the Chandigarh Librarians Associations, UT Adviser Vineeta Rai emphaised that reading should not take a backseat in the present-day system.

Library Association general secreatry I.B. Verma said: "The objective behind the programme is to make the students, their parents and teachers aware of library-oriented education, by giving importance to reading books.

Today, kids participated in cartoon-making, poster-making and other competitions.

Verma said later inter-school and inter-college quiz, debate and other competitons would also be orgainsed.
