PUNE, Nov 14: The tirade launched by the National Society for Clean Cities, Pune Chapter against stray dogs has had a positive fall-out. The Dehu Road Cantonment Board (DCB) is contemplating the purchase of a dog van to curb the stray dog menace in the cantonment area.A decision to this effect was taken at the recent general body meeting of the cantonment board. The efforts to hire a a dog squad and a dog van from the neighboring civic bodies failed since they were busy with their own work. The board felt that the dog van was required to be purchased. The van costs approximately Rs. 4 lakh.
This van can also be used for catching stray animals such as pigs and goats The cantonment board plans to fill the vacant post of the Cattle Pound Keeper and he will be trained along with a helper for catching stray dogs and taking them for sterilisation to the hospital maintained by a non-government organisation at Pune.
