Gurpreet steers PGI XI to win

CHANDIGARH, Nov 14: Riding on the brilliance of Gurpreet Sonu, who struck 78 runs helped PGI XI gave a crushing blow to Mohali Gymkhana XI in the final of JAL Cup cricket tournament at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, here today. PGI XI beat Mohali Gymkhana by nine wickets to lift the trophy.

Gurpreet, who hit 14 boundaries in his knock of 78 runs which came off 63 balls was ably supported by Rajinder, who remained unbeaten at 66. The duo helped the team to achieve the target of 183 runs set up Mohali Gymkhana XI, who scored 182 for 9 in stipulated 35 overs.

For Mohali XI, Munish Arora's unbeaten 84-run came to a naught when others batsmen failed to face the rival bowlers.

Munish Arora was declared the best all rounder while Sukhwinder Tinkoo and Vinod Binta were adjudged best batsman and bowler, respectively.

Ravi shines
Fine half century by Ravi Kumar (68) enabled Royal Cricket Club beat Evergreen XI (Derabassi) by eight wickets in the PR Munjal cash prize money cricket tournament, today.

In another match Chetna XI defeated Domino XI by nine wickets.
Brief scores: Royal Club: 141 in 22.3 overs (Ravi Kumar 68, Naresh 34, Sumit 6 for 30) Evergreen XI: 133 for 9 (Vijay Ratttan 50, Rajesh Vaid 17, Surinder 2 for 26). Domino XI: 63 in 15.4 overs (Nirmal Singh 12, Narinder Kwatra 4 for 26, Dharamveer 2 for 1); Chetna XI: 64 in 12 overs (Narinder Kwatra 34).

St John's-26 win
St John's School-26 beat Saupin's School, Panchkula by 89 runs in the Inter School cricket tournament at St John's School in Sector 26, today.
Brief scores: St John's-26: 181 for 4 in 20 overs (Karan Dhanoa 72, Devjot Singh 29 n.o., Ish Dhand 23); Saupin School (Panchkula): 91 for 3 in 20 overs: (Amit 11).
Edmund Rice: 113 for 4 in 20 overs (Kanav Chawla 18 n.o., Amitabh Tiwari 14, Ketan 2 for 18); St Anne's School-32: 106 for 7 in 20 overs (Abhijit 22, Shivam 17, Palminder 18, Praveer Singh 2 for 10).

Jatinder excels
Unbeaten knock by Jatinder (52 not out) helped ICC XI beat Punjab Civil Secretariat by 7 wickets in the Star Cup cricket tournament today.

In another match High Court XI edged out LIC XI by five runs.

Rohin shines
All-round performance by Rohin (46 not out and 2 for 21) enabled CY XI (Chandigarh) beat Rally XI by two wickets in the final of the 4th Haryana Tourism cash prize cricket tournament at Panchkula today.
