Dacoits take both truck and goods

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Nov 15: In an unusual incident, dacoits drove away a truck carrying goods worth Rs 10 lakh from near the Lunawada-Modasa highway in the Panchmahals in the wee hours of Monday.

Police said the truck (HR-38-D-2944), carrying tyres and spares worth Rs 10 lakh, was heading towards Modasa via Lunawada around 1.30 am this morning when another truck overtook it and forced it to come to a halt. Six to seven persons armed with sticks alighted from the other truck and pulled the driver and cleaner out. After tying the duo with ropes, the gang hauled them into their own truck. Both the trucks drove away, police said.

After driving some distance, the two were taken out and tied to a tree in a nearby field. The robbers then sped away in the two trucks. Driver Bahuddin Ramzan Qureshi lodged a complaint at Lunawada police station, stating that the truck and goods were together valued at Rs 28 lakh. Police said that both driver and cleaner received injuries in the attack.

However, the extent of the injuries is not known. The police have sounded a red alert. Sources in the police said the robbers might try to escape into a neighbouring state. Since the scene of crime was close to the Madhya Pradesh border. Lunawada police sub-inspector is investigating the case.
