D.K. Tiwari takes over as PSEB secretary
PATIALA: D.K. Tiwari has taken over as secretary of the Punjab State Electricity Board here. According to a release, Tiwari, a civil engineer from Roorkee University, served as an engineer from 1992 to 1994 in the CPWD, New Delhi, and belongs to the 1994 batch of IAS. Tiwari also served as the Faridkot SDM, Abohar SDM and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General and Development), Moga, before assuming office here.Karamchari Dal to re-launch stir
PATIALA: Punjab State Karamchari Dal (PSKD) has decided to restart its agitation programme against the anti-employee and anti-people policies of the government. Hari Singh Tohra, president of the Dal, today said the people of the state were compelled to face hardships because of the government's failure to play its role. He said the Dal was planning to organise a protest rally next month in front of the office of the Commissioner, Ferozepur, under its agitation programme.
PSEB does its bit for Orissa victims
PATIALA: The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Engineers Association has decided to donate a day's salary to the Orissa relief fund to help the cyclone-affected persons. H.S. Bedi, general secretary of the association, said that a resolution had been passed in their annual general house meeting yesterday, and the association would contribute about Rs 10 lakh for the relief fund. He said that the association has already sent a letter to the board management in this connection.
15-day dental camp inaugurated
PATIALA: A 15-day medical camp for dental care sponsored by State Bank of Patiala, Amargarh branch, was inaugurated at the local primary health centre this week. Darshan Singh Deepak, branch manager, briefed the audience on the bank's various community service activities for assisting the needy. Sarbjit Singh, Sarpanch, Dr V.K. Kakkar, SMO, and Dr Arun Nagar, SMO (dental), lauded the bank's role in social service.
Rotary Club donates Rs 5,100 relief
PATIALA: Following the call given by the Patiala Deputy Commissioner for aid in cash or kind to the cyclone-hit people of Orissa, Rotary Club, Patiala, donated Rs. 5,100. Clothes, shoes and utensils were also donated by the Rotarians.
